To disable user list on login screen

I do want to hide the LightDM login screen user list for security reason. And here is how it worked for me on my Xubuntu 14.04 machine.

  • I do always expect you to work in a “root”-terminal 😉
  • check to see if you have /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/
    # ls -l /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/
  • If you need to create it …
    # mkdir -p /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/
  • create something like 49-how-I-do-it.conf
    # vi /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/49-how-I-do-it.conf
  • add the folowing
greeter-show-manual-login=true # enable to you have to type your username
greeter-hide-users=true # hide the user list
allow-guest=false # disable Guest-User (you have to uncomment this if you want the Gues User Session)
  • restart lightdm daemon
    # service lightdm restart

You can also logout or restart your laptop…
